Fairgame City: Review

Fairgame City, the ultimate adults-only fairground has recently launched a new location in St Paul’s - and you NEED to give it a try! It’s like someone took all the games you loved as a kid, gave them a modernised twist, vibrant lights, cocktails and a DJ with classic hits. Think hook-a-duck, whack-a-mole (this time called Exe-Cute) and a bunch of new games to try, but with a Small Duck Energy cocktail in your hand.

Fairgame City

Whether you’ve tried their first location in Canary Wharf or not, Fairgame City brings a whole new vibe to the table. Complete with a line-up of 12 brand new fairground games, fairground themed cocktails and some great food to refuel post-winning a pink teddy bear, it’s a perfect spot for a date night or evening with friends. I went with my partner and we both went straight into full competitive mode.

Everything about this venue screams nostalgia and setting your inner child loose. It’s essentially a boozy playground! The second you walk in, you are faced with a giant 15ft rotating duck right at the entrance, pretty much setting the standard from the onset, and as you make your way down, you are met with colour splashed literally everywhere and probably around 100 pink teddy bears hanging from the ceiling. It’s fun, infectious and chaotic in the best way.

Once we checked in, we had some time to grab a drink at the bar before our games started. The bar itself has such a fun atmosphere to it that I would honestly just come here for drinks as well. Each cocktail has a fun, nostalgic twist, including Prosecco-infused candy floss, a Fish Bowl and a Helter Skelter (this comes with marshmallows). I am ALWAYS more tempted to get a drink when they have a unique spin.

Post-drinks, we had 90 minutes overall for the gameplay (which is honestly quite a lot of time). I’d say we were only there for about an hour, but this can depend on how busy the venue is and queue times for the games. We never had to queue for longer than 5 minutes for each, which kept everything at the perfect pace. Depending on how competitive you get, these might be helpful for a little time to catch your breath!

The challenges had a fantastic mix of the classic fairground games, including basketball and hook-a-duck, alongside some brand new games that I’ve never even seen before. One included an OAP Race (I was about 0.2 seconds away from winning a teddy bear) and a gear stick challenge, where you have to win the race (I was not so great at this one)!

I’m not usually a competitive person, but we all got so competitive SO quickly. We could check in at any point in the evening to compare our scoreboards in the group to keep the competitiveness fierce - although I did come last at a good 80% of them! My partner was set on winning the games; he was fully locked in for each activity. I broke his concentration at one point, and it cost him his prize! We had two tries at each game, giving us enough time to really get the swing of it.

I didn’t realise how much of an appetite we would have worked up, but there were some brilliant vendors to choose from, including Alby’s Pizza (where you can pretend to be in New York with a classic slice of pizza the size of your face), Burger&Beyond and LeBab.

Definitely one to add to your lists if you’re looking for something fun to do in London in an energetic space, but if you want to avoid the chaos of a London bar.
