The Cube Experience
Welcome to The Cube… the world’s toughest gaming experience. That’s the first thing we heard at the start of the game, and honestly? They weren’t lying.
I used to love watching the show when I was younger, so I was so excited to try this out! Hidden in the heart of Canary Wharf, The Cube is the ultimate group activity; whether you’re planning a night out with friends, a quirky team-building session, or even a fun day with the family.
Inspired by the hit TV show, the concept is simple, and while it seems easy looking in from the outside, the games themselves aren’t as much! We had to take on several glass cubes and face a series of challenges that test speed, balance, memory, and most importantly so, communication and teamwork.
Teams are split into 2v2 matches, and while you are against your friends, you're still cheering them on the whole time! I went down with my partner, sister and dad, and couldn’t help but feel frustrated for them when they lost a challenge! It’s incredible how involved you feel so early in.
Designed with state-of-the-art technology, 21 incredible glass cubes are spread out across two floors, each holding a different challenge. We only took on seven cubes, each getting harder and harder throughout the game!
Every time we thought it looked simple enough, until we stepped inside The Cube and realised how deceptive these games really are. Something as simple as throwing and catching was completely thrown in the gutter when I accidentally knocked my pile of foam cubes on the floor!
The 10-second timer adds a whole other level of chaos, as this does not feel like much time at all to better the challenge! Very much like the gameshow, each team had three lifelines per challenge, with the opportunity for a ‘simplify’ (to make the game more manageable) or switching out with your team mate to help out (which proved very useful during the memory challenges).
We all decided to save our simplify for the final round as this one was the hardest - and the most frustrating to beat! The extra two seconds we were granted were crucial.
We took a small break halfway through to re-charge, and a cocktail was very much needed at this point! I loved the variety of cocktails on offer, I ordered a Funfetti which honestly looked like a cupcake with sprinkles (in the best way).
The final challenge was by FAR everyone’s favourite. About 30 balls were dropped into The Cube, and myself and Reece had to collect them all within the timer. This involved a lot of running, screaming (on my end - as if that would help out at all) and pure chaos. It was brilliant!
Reece & I won, although it was a very close call to my sister and dad who were only a few points behind.
We ended the night digging into their sharing platters on offer - we had the Party Platter and Burger Slide Platter, which involved eight mini burgers, fries, chicken wings, nachos, mozzarella sticks and more. It was more than plenty for the four of us, and insanely delicious.
This has to be one of the best, engaging activities in London. What feels like a familiar challenge quickly becomes something entirely new, exciting, and brilliantly inventive.
